East Sussex

East Sussex among the best - and the worst - for woodland.

Despite East Sussex being among the top five best counties in England for woodland cover (18.7% compared to the national average of 10%), the county is sadly among the five worst - for both the highest number of threats to ancient woodland AND the number of woods lost or damaged in the last ten years.

Statistics show a staggering 40 ancient woods have been under threat in the last 10 years - eight of these have already been lost or damaged.

Action is needed to stop this.
