Cheshire is one of the worst counties in England for woodland cover, and faces a high number of threats from development.
Woodland cover in Cheshire is much lower than the national average (6.4% compared to 10%).
Worse, 11 precious ancient woods have come under threat from development in the last 10 years – five of which have already been lost or damaged - so greater protection for the county's existing woods and trees is urgently needed as well as more tree planting.
