Piece-by-Piece

The Guardian newspaper is joining forces with WoodWatch to help with the fight to stop loss of Ancient Woodland, native woods and ancient trees to unscrupulous development.

Piece-by-Piece is an initiative developed by Juliette Jowit - the Guardian's Environmental Editor and a keen WoodWatcher herself. She - like us - passionately believes in the idea that local power makes a positive difference in halting the loss of habitats that are rare and valuable to us all.

The Guardian's Piece-by-Piece project wants to alert people to the scale of piecemeal development, and its impact on the natural world. What they very much do not want to do, however, is make those same people feel overwhelmed or disempowered. Instead they wish to work with many organisations and local groups (like you and the Woodland Trust) across the UK in the hope that their website can become a forum for local campaigners to swap tips and tactics, help gather evidence and be encouraged to keep fighting a just cause.

WoodWatchers unite!

The Guardian will love to hear from your local group over the coming months, if it is involved in fighting against native or ancient woodland or ancient tree loss. Please share your experiences to help inspire more people to take positive, effective action for our natural world.

Log onto their website so they can feature your story; but please remember to name check WoodWatch - together we are stronger.
