Campaigns History

For over 10 years the Woodland Trust has been involved in advocacy and lobbying work on behalf of the UK's native woods and trees.

Our campaigns have made a measurable difference to the UK's native woodland... and we have tackled them all with the help of supporters like you.

Why do we campaign?

We work in a wide range of areas - from influencing national policy to fighting against ancient woodland loss from development; from supporting a modern public forest estate to extolling the benefits of tree planting to Government.

Here are just a few of our most recent examples:

Save England's Ancient Forests

Government proposals to sell off the public forest estate created a public outcry - over 125,000 people signed our petition in 3 weeks. Plans were abandoned, but ancient woods are still not safe!

Planning changes

Over 11,300 messages were sent to the Government calling for ancient woodland protection to be retained in new planning rules.

The Environment Minister personally invited our supporters to help influence the next Natural Environment White Paper - and you responded in your thousands!

The Sustainable Communities Act (and Amendment Bill)

We successfully lobbied to get this Bill passed into law, which will help local people increase tree cover and green spaces in their communities.
