More about this consultation

An important national discussion which will shape the tone of conservation policy in England for many years to come...

The Government, through Defra (the Department for the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs) has launched a public consultation around the future of the natural environment.

You are formally invited!

Defra has specifically asked us to encourage our supporters to share their views on ‘which parts of the natural environment matter most and how [Government] can best protect and enhance them’.

Watch the Environment Minister's personal appeal to Woodland Trust supporters:

Your voice matters.

Government asks 15 questions in total, the definitive question is:

"If you could choose just one priority action for the Natural Environment White Paper to drive forward locally, nationally or internationally – what would it be?"

Send your answer using our new online gizmo:

Email your response straight to Defra

This is a real chance to influence political action!

The findings from this Natural Environment White Paper consultation will result in what Defra says will be a 'bold and ambitious statement outlining the Government’s priorities for the natural environment, setting out a framework for practical action by Government, communities, businesses and civil society organisations to deliver on that ambition'.

We will be sending in our own formal submission, calling for Government to adopt a target of doubling native woodland cover in the UK.

Will you join us in support of the UK's native woods and trees?
