Agriculture Minister visits Trust wood

O’Neill urges landowners to plant trees

The Woodland Trust’s Drumlamph Wood was recently the venue for a visit from Agriculture Minister, Michelle O’Neill.

Just outside Maghera in County Londonderry, Drumlamph Wood is one of our rare and precious ancient woodlands, and is buffered by thousands of recently planted native trees.

The Minister called for a ‘united effort’ in increasing Northern Ireland’s limited woodland cover, appealing to farmers and landowners to consider the benefits of woodland creation and the government incentives on offer.

We welcome this sentiment and look forward to working with the Minister and her department with the ultimate goal of doubling woodland cover over the next 50 years.
