Coalition's programme for government published

Nick Clegg and David Cameron

The Government have now announced the full terms of the coalition programme.

Some of the highlights in the document from the Coalition include:

We will launch a national tree planting campaign;
We will introduce measures to protect wildlife and promote green spaces and wildlife corridors in order to halt the loss of habitats and restore biodiversity;

We will refuse permission for additional runways at Gatwick and Stansted.

The full document is available to download on the right hand side.

In addition to the above is something that may be of interest in the longer term to WoodWatchers in particular:

We will radically reform the planning system to give neighbourhoods far more ability to determine the shape of the places in which their inhabitants live.

As our election campaign proved, woods and trees are finally receiving the political profile they deserve! Leadership is now needed to ensure that woodland creation becomes a priority for the new Parliament.
