Protecting and improving woodland

Throught the project the Trust worked to enhance the structure of existing broadleaved woodland, enhance biodiversity and increase the area of native woodland in West Lothian.  This was achieved through

  • Thinning 49 hectares of densely planted woodland to encourage more light into the woodland, making it more welcoming for visitors as well as creating a more diverse woodland habitat.
  • Felling and replanting 3 hectares of coniferous woodland
  • Planting 6,750 new native trees to create new 3 hectare native woodland

Ongoing management of 230 hectares of woodland will continue according to the latest woodland management plans
