Career development

We are committed to developing and retaining talent.  We’ll share the responsibility for your development with you.  There will always be a range of resources available to you and your manager to help you determine and meet your development needs.

Here are a few ways we’ll work with you to help you achieve your full potential:

The Woodland Trust's commitment to you

We are committed to your development from your first day.  Upon joining the Trust you will have an induction plan in place.  Our commitment to your development includes your performance and development review which will be completed at your 3 month and 6 month stage and then on an annual basis.

Performance Development Review (PDR)

Our PDR it there to help you at all stages of your career with us.  It is a tool to help you identify what progress you have made over the past year and what you have achieved.  This process is lead by you and gives you and your manager the opportunity to discuss the things that matter to you, demonstrate your achievements and reflect on and seek development.

Coaching and feedback

We have a culture of ongoing coaching and feedback for employees.  This is achieved by way of informal and formal processes incorporated in your PDR review.  Feedback is encouraged throughout the Trust and gives you a true picture of yourself.

On-the-job development

On the job development is part of the way we work.  We are fortunate that roles can be broadened within the Trust. This provides opportunity for personal development and additional responsibilities, allowing your work at the Trust to be interesting and challenging with opportunities for 'stretch' in your objectives and achievements.

myLearning

You’ll have access to learning opportunities by way of instructor-led and eLearning courses. The Trust provides courses run internally and externally in areas like; presentation skills, performance coaching and time management, including some customised leadership training for managers.
