Summary of Job:
To recruit, train and manage a network of volunteer woodland creation champions. The role of the volunteers will be to advise and support individuals and communities with their woodland creation plans both over the phone, by e-mail and on site.
Duties:
- To develop the volunteer task outline
- To recruit suitable skilled and experienced volunteers who are able to deliver an effective information and advice service
- To develop and produce effective training materials
- To induct and deliver effective training programmes for volunteers
- To work in close partnership with Woodland Creation Advisors to ensure best fit with Woodland Trust practices on woodland creation
- To manage a project budget
- To provide ongoing support and supervision to volunteers
- To monitor and evaluate volunteer performance
- To develop an outcomes based performance framework
- To disseminate results of projects both internally and externally
- To be an active member of the Trust's Volunteer Managers Forum
- To ensure volunteers have access to the appropriate equipment and information they will need to carry out their role
- To ensure the health and safety of all volunteers
- To develop and maintain an excellent understanding of how the volunteer woodland creation champions can add value to other Trust initiatives and projects.
Qualities Required:
- Communication - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with the confidence to represent the trust both internally and externally in a professional, competent and positive manner
- Relationship management - You will have an exceptional ability to network and be comfortable developing relationships with a wide variety of individuals and organisations
- Professional - Self-motivated, flexible and well organised, you will be able to demonstrate experience of excellent planning, meeting targets to tight deadlines for internal and external customers. You will have a ‘can do’ positive approach.
- Collaborative - You will demonstrate the ability to work across multiple teams with a variety of skills across a large complex organisation.
- Results focused - You will be able to prioritise and act with tenacity, determination and enthusiasm to achieve targets
- Innovative - You will be able to use your own innovation, making sound decisions and able to creating and delivering new ideas that further the trusts strategic priorities. You will translate creative ideas into action and reality
Knowledge Required:
- Best practice on volunteer recruitment and management
- Understanding principles of remote volunteer management
- Appreciation of what motivates people to begin, and to continue, volunteering
- Providing monthly statistics
- An interest in Woodland and wider environmental issues is desirable
Experience Required:
- Recruiting and managing volunteers (preferably remotely but not essential)
- Developing and delivering training to adults
- Working in a collaborative style across organisational departments
- IT systems including Microsoft Office and supporter care databases
Qualifications Required:
- Adult training qualification PTLLS or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
- Available to travel away from home on occasions to deliver training
