CDENT

CDENT (The County Durham Environmental Trust) funds eligible projects within County Durham and Darlington, and adjacent areas of Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead.

White Hill Woods - a wood continues to grow

The purchase of 83 hectares of land adjacent to the Trust’s existing Elemore Woods in County Durham will create the region’s largest area of publicly accessible woodland and the Trust’s largest site in the North East. CDENT are a major supporter of the project, contributing £500,000 towards the acquisition. Other supporters include the Heritage Lottery Fund, SITA Trust and Biffaward.

During 2009 and 2010, White Hill Woods as it is now known, will be planted with more than 90,000 native broadleaved trees and shrubs to become part of a continuous area of woodland stretching 4 km. Local schoolchildren will be involved in planting trees on the site as part of the Tree for All programme. Other community events will also take place at the site.
