Scottish Natural Heritage

Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) was established in 1992 through the Natural Heritage (Scotland) Act 1991.  SNH is a Government body responsible to Scottish Government Ministers and through them to the Scottish Parliament.

Much of their work is done in partnership with others - local authorities, Government bodies, businesses, community groups, farmers and other land managers, and a wide range of representative bodies, including the Woodland Trust.

The support of Scottish Natural Heritage has helped us with many Woodland Trust projects, from finding and documenting ancient trees with the Ancient Tree Hunt to enabling children to plant trees with Tree For All and Branching Out West Lothian.  We have also been able to improve access and involve the local community with red squirrel conservation at Backmuir, Muirhead, one of the few ancient woods in the area.
