Natural England

Natural England gives practical advice to the government on how best to safeguard England’s natural environment. Its aim is to protect and improve this resource and encourage people to enjoy and get involved in their surroundings.

Countdown 2010

£81,000 has been approved for restoring and maintaining lowland heathland and dry acid-grassland and also for removing invasive rhododendron at Brede High Wood in East Sussex. The restoration is to be achieved by clearing scrub from the margins of Holman Field, felling conifers, coppicing overgrown hedges and linking small pockets of heathland and grassland across the site.

The Woodland Trust will work in partnership with Natural England to ensure a co-ordinated and inclusive land management approach to landscape scale.

We are also hoping to inspire and educate 700 school children about the UK Biodiversity Action Plan priority habitats and species within Brede High Woods and encourage them to be involved in the long term maintenance of the site. Local school children will be encouraged to participate in events like Woodland Discovery Days and Wildlife Discovery Days which will teach them about the wildlife and habitats within the site, as well as get involved with tree planting on the site.
