Countryside Council for Wales

The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) works to promote and sustain the rich and varied environment and landscapes of Wales. Its aim is to get everyone to value the environment as a place for wildlife, but also for leisure and learning opportunities.

CCW has funded a variety of Woodland Trust projects right across Wales over the last few years.

Wentwood Forest

In 2006 with the help of £50,000 from CCW, we were able to acquire Wentwood Forest near Newport, South Wales. Wentwood is part of the largest ancient Woodland in Wales and is a haven for a multitude of plants and wildlife as well as a fabulous place for visitors to explore and enjoy.

Access and conservation projects

From 2004 to 2006, CCW supported works at a number of sites across Wales. With their help we were able to undertake dry stone wall repairs and access improvements at the Punchbowl, control invasive Cherry Laurel and improve signage at Silia Wood and make a significant start on the restoration of the planted ancient woodland at Abertrewern.
