How do I download a file?

Downloading a file

  1. Click on the link provided to start a download
  2. A window will open asking if you want to 'Run this program from its current location' or 'Save this program to disk'. Choose the option to save
  3. A window will open showing you the folders on your hard disk. It's easiest to save on your desktop
  4. Click 'Save' and you will see how long you should wait for the download to complete.
  5. After the file has downloaded click on 'Open' to open the file

Downloading an image

  1. To download an image you simply click on it in your web browser. On a PC you right-click the mouse and choose 'Save Image'
  2. A window will open showing you the folders on your hard disk. It's easiest to save on your desktop
  3. After the file has downloaded click on 'Open' to open the file.

Compressed files

Some of the files you download from the Woodland Trust website may be compressed to make the file smaller making them quicker to download.

You'll know this because the extension .zip appears at the end of the file name. To decompress the file you need a program like WinZip or Stuffit.
