British bluebell or Spanish bluebell? Identify the species with our easy quiz

Can you tell the difference between native British bluebells and non-native Spanish?

You'll find two types of bluebell growing wild in the UK. The UK’s native bluebell, also known as English or British bluebell, (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) and the Spanish bluebell (Hyacinthoides hispanica) which has spread across much of the UK as a garden escape.

One of the main threats to native bluebells is cross breeding with Spanish bluebells. They grow faster and spread more quickly than our native bluebell. But can you tell the difference between the two?

Whichever type of bluebell you've seen, record it with the Big Bluebell Watch.
