Wood pasture

Borkener Paradis, Germany – young oak protected by bramble

Wood- pasture is an area of trees and grazing. The trees usually naturally regenerate within the protection of thorny scrub.

In such management systems if trees were cut like coppice then grazing animals would browse out the regrowth. Instead trees were pollarded out of reach of grazing stock such as cattle.

In the Domesday Book it was known as silva pastilis (coppice woodland was known as silva minuta)
