ATF Visit to Black Park and Langley Park, South Bucks

    Thursday 09 March 2006

Black Park and Langley Park, South Bucks

The Heritage Lottery fund has pledged nearly £2m to both these parks as part of a restoration package over the next few years.

Langley Park, a grade two registered park, is a fine 18th Century designed landscape with many ancient oaks and
a formal arboretum. These beautiful grounds receive around 360,000 visitors annually and are a crucial 'green haven' for public use. The restoration will involve work to the lake thought to have been designed by 'Capability' Brown and its rare period rhododendron collection . A visitor and resource centre will be built to provide facilities and the opportunity to further discover the park's rich heritage.
The park's trees will be conserved, with some of the land returned to pasture and improved paths and signs to encourage visitors to explore the area further.

Black Park, is famous as a film set for Pinewood Studios, featuring in The Mummy Returns, Midsomer Murders and Silent Witness and other favourites, contains impressive woodlands and lake, a heathland and an Alder Carr Site
of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) The Alder Carr SSSI and improved public access will benefit from the restoration project. There are also plans for a safer pedestrian crossing over the A412 main road between the two parks and archeological areas such as medieval deer park features will be researched and conserved for the future.

Come and find out how Bucks CC are developing their Heritage Lottery Fund bid and their restoration ideas and in particular the conservation of the ancient trees.
